CAPSTONE PROJECT
Team Krane
As a group of Mechanical Engineering students from the University of Nevada, Reno, we were presented with the opportunity to work with Dr. Daichi Fujioka on developing a mobile base crane to assist in the teaching of a Mechanical Design class.
INITIAL DESIGNS
Types of cranes
Initially, the team began by sketching some rough ideas of potential crane design choices. Below are the 3 chosen to go into a decision making process where the team would decide the final concept.

FINAL DESIGN CONCEPT
Our team decided that a box crane approach would allow for the best mobility and safety for a classroom. Some changes were made to the design to better resemble a toy crane game found in arcades.
PROOF OF CONCEPT (POC)
The team designed a PoC that would demonstrate that we had the capabilities to actually build the crane. The video to the right is a 1 dimensional model of the gantry that will be used in the final design.
MOVING FORWARD
Final build
This project is currently on-going and I will be updating our progress on this web page. We are currently waiting for all of the parts to be delivered so we can start on the build process. I have been selected to head the GUI development which will be written in python and that process will be ongoing for the entirety of the semester. Below you can find a gallery of various images about our project.
